9 Legit Online Typing Jobs You Can Do From Home Legitimate Online Typist Jobs

So what kind of legitimate online typing jobs from home can you do? You can find online typing jobs that are freelance or contract positions along with companies that will hire you as a W2 employee.

While some jobs are based solely on your ability to type like transcription work, other jobs will have you writing content online or inputting data.

Either way, you can always work on your typing speed and accuracy before you start work. Realize the more you type each day, the better you’ll get.

Here are 9 of the best online typing jobs you can do from home to get you started!

1. Transcription Typing Jobs Online What is a Transcriptionist

Transcription is a legitimate online typing job that I highly recommend. Because it is in high demand nowadays. This work generally involves transcribing video and audio content to create a readable text document.

Transcriptionists have to be efficient and very fast typists. You will need to pause the video or audio multiple times to make sure you’re accurately typing out every word.

At the same time, you’ll need typing speed in order to get projects completed in a reasonable time.

Not sure how well you’d do as a transcriptionist. Try transcribing a 5 to 8-minute YouTube video. See what you like and don’t like about it.

Paid transcription work may or may not be similar. You may be paid to transcribe voicemail or video meetings. Or, you could take on legal or medical transcription work. The possibilities are endless.

Generally, transcriptionists earn $15 per hour but compensation is often structured differently than other jobs. While you may earn a specific hourly wage at another job, with transcription, you could be paid per audio minute.

This means, if you transcribe an 8-minute video, you’ll get paid a flat rate multiplied by 8 since that represents the audio minutes.

Even if it takes you 30 to 40 minutes to transcribe, you wouldn’t get paid based on that time frame. This is why being an efficient typist is important if you’re looking to maximize your income.

A stenographer is someone who takes a written verbatim record of a conversation using a shortened writing style called ‘steno’ using a steno machine.

Stenographers mainly work in a legal setting in courtrooms so their work is similar to a court reporter.

Stenographers also work in fields like television, closed captioning and provide records for governmental agency proceedings.

Using the stenograph machine does require some practice and training because it’s different from using a regular keyboard on a computer.

The stenograph is based on syllables instead of by letter and you can usually type out shortened versions of words or abbreviations with just one keystroke.

This allows stenographers to type many more words in less time than a transcriptionist.

These notes can often be sold to students or given to enrolled students who miss the class. They are also used by disabled students who may not be able to take their own notes. While the job sounds easy enough, speed and accuracy is important.
