6. DionData Solutions

DionData Solutions doesn’t have data entry online jobs at the moment, but they normally hire data entry clerks to work from home.

Make a point of coming back at least every few weeks to check if they are hiring again.

DionData Solutions claims to be the leading provider in data entry services and I believe that they are. It has been offering data entry services since 1999 and has a large client base.

The company normally hires in-house staff and home contracted vendors. You may not get the in-house position but the freelancing offers might be what you need.

8. Amazon Mechanical Turk

mTurk data entry work from home

MTurk is another micro-job site that pays you for every task that you complete. They have created short tasks called HITS (Human Intelligence Tasks) that every worker completes in exchange for extra income.

I have to admit that the amount given is not much but it’s a great starting point if you don’t have any skills or experience.

Tasks range from data entry online jobs, transcription, translation, writing, etc.

One thing worth keeping in mind is that a requester (who is the owner of the work) may approve or reject your work. If he or she rejects your work, you won’t be paid.

But, if he approves it funds are credited to your Amazon Mechanical Turk account.

9. Microworkers

microworkers entry level data entry jobs

Microworkers is similar to Fiverr.com. It’s a gig economy marketplace that connects employers with workers who are ready to perform certain tasks for extra cash.

With Fiverr, the worker creates a service (gig) then a buyer orders the service and makes payment once the order is completed.

On Microworkers, employers create short tasks (micro-jobs) then workers complete them as required.

These short tasks range from taking surveys, image tagging, data mining and extraction, research studies, and video transcription among others.

Considering how short they are, they pay a dollar or less. I know the pay isn’t much but if you have some free time, this can be a great way to bring in a few bucks a month.

10. Clickworker

Clickworker_data_entry_jobs_online

Join ClickWorker and get paid for every single task that you complete. The tasks can be as simple as filling a form or posting on social media.

Once you get enough funds in your ClickWorker account you can withdraw via PayPal or direct deposit to your bank account.

If you are pressed on cash and are looking for a way to bring in new sources of income, I would encourage you to do as many tasks as possible then choose PayPal as your mode of payment.

With PayPal, you will receive your money on a weekly basis but the direct deposit will hold your funds until the end of the month.

Skills Needed for Data Entry Online JobsSkills Needed for Data Entry Online Jobs

For you to work efficiently as a data entry clerk, you need to have certain basic skills.

I know different companies have different skillsets for their workers, but let’s look at the general data entry skills that every worker must-have.

1) Basic Computer Skillscomputer for transcription

This is a no-brainer, really, and does not just apply to online data entry jobs. Anyone thinking of working from home should know how to operate a computer.

You should be familiar with a few programs, apps, and software like handling Word & Excel documents, installing antivirus, searching for terminologies on the internet, etc.

If you don’t know how to do these things, you can go to YouTube and search for any topic you like. YouTube will give you a number of videos on the topics you’ve selected.

Let’s look at this video talking about the basic computer skills.

2) Typing Skills

You don’t need to be typing at 120 words per minute to get data entry jobs from home, but most companies require data entry clerks to type at least 40 words per minute.

Also, make sure that your work is accurate and with minimal errors.

If your typing speed is low, you can use these 5 awesome tips to improve it!

3) Communication Skills

Learn to communicate well with your clients or fellow data entry clerks.

These skills may come in handy when 3 or 4 of you are assigned a project and you have to coordinate and communicate with each other to make it a success.

Remember that you are not in a traditional office set up where you can ask a question or seek clarity in person. Being able to send and receive communication accurately will work in your favor.

Most companies prefer email, Skype, or phone.

4) Attention to Detail & Good Organization Skills

For you to handle data entry jobs online well, you need to pay attention and be well-organized.

Remember, data entry is all about transferring large volumes of data from one location to another on a continuous basis. If you do your work haphazardly and get things mixed up, you may have to repeat the whole process all over again.

I’m assuming you don’t want that, do you?

Equipment Needed for Online Data Entry Jobsperson working online typing jobs

1) A Working Computer

Every data entry worker must have a working computer with the right apps and software installed. Established data entry companies normally have their own programs for inputting data.

But those that don’t may require you to use data processing software like Microsoft Office or G-Suite. Make sure you are savvy in these areas.

2) High-Speed Internet Connection

Data keyers need to have a fast internet connection to make work easier. Some data entry apps or software are programmed to refresh automatically if you take too long to input data.

If this happens, you may lose all the data you had already entered and you will have to repeat the whole process all over again.

So, a fast internet connection is essential if you want to work fast and earn more money.

3) Comfortable Chair

Data entry work is repetitive work. You will sit for long hours while working. Getting a comfortable chair that supports your back and your whole body will prevent fatigue and increase productivity.

If you don’t have a comfortable chair, you can get one from Amazon at a cost-effective price.

4) Home Officehome office for data entry jobs online

I put this one last because it’s important but not mandatory. When I started doing data entry work on Fiverr.com, I didn’t have an office.

I was working from my kitchen counter, and you can do the same. But after a while, you need to treat this like a real job and get a home office.

If you have an extra room in the house, you can decorate it nicely and turn it into an office, which is what I did.

Data Entry Scams to AvoidData Entry Scams to Avoid

I’ve always talked about my work from home journey but never mentioned online or data entry scams.

As much as there are good people out there willing to hire you to work for them, there are just as many bad people.

People who want you to work for free, and worse still, some want to rob you blind of your hard-earned money.

I was lucky and never got robbed but I spent countless hours working for free. That was a hard lesson to learn back then. I’m wiser now and I want to help you avoid these scams.

1) Get-Rich-Quick Scheme

If you see a job offer that promises you thousands of dollars for minimal work in a short period of time, know that that’s a scam.

It takes hard work and dedication to good money online like I’m doing with my blog currently.

But, many scammers use the dollar signs to confuse innocent people and lure them into believing the lies that they tell. Stay away from such job offers.

2) Pay to Get Data Entry Jobs online

You may come across certain companies asking you to pay a registration fee before getting hired.

Don’t fall for it! Why in the world would someone ask you for money if they are the ones hiring? It doesn’t make sense, does it?

This is another tactic that scammers use to rob their unsuspecting victims blind.

For example, a scammer may tell you to pay a registration fee of $25. To you, $25 may seem so little and you will be willing to pay, but if 100 people pay that amount it will result in him walking away with $2,500 without much sweat.

Do you see where I am going with this? So, be careful.

3) No contact information

When searching for remote data entry jobs, make sure you do your research thoroughly.

Does the website have contact details? Who are the founders? Are there any other people you can reach if a problem arises?

If the website has no phone number, email address, or Skype details, be wary of it. These are the people who don’t like taking responsibility in case something goes wrong, and chances are that they are scammers.

Always look at the “Contact US” page before applying for any remote data entry job.

4) Working For Free

I fell into this scam a couple of times but learned the hard way. I know when you are just starting out, you may not have any skills or experience and the client may suggest completing some work to help him/her gauge your suitability. I also support that idea but make sure it’s paid work.

A good client will give you work and pay you half the amount just in case things don’t work out. Always settle for a paid trial. And if it’s to work for free, don’t work for more than 30 minutes.

Spending a whole day working for free in order to prove your competence is a waste of time. Don’t allow people to exploit you. Charge what you are worth even as a beginner.

Great Alternatives to Data Entry Jobs From Homehands typing on a keyboard

1) Transcription

Transcription still falls under the online typing jobs but there is more work involved compared to data entry. With data entry work, you only type what you see.

Transcription involves listening to audio recordings and typing them into Word documents or any other word processing software. So, you type what you hear.

If you are a fast typist and detail-oriented, you can take up transcription jobs in addition to data entry work.

I used to do this while working on Fiverr.com. I had clients for both transcription and data entry work and I loved working on both projects.

Janet Shaugnessy offers free transcription training. If you want to give transcription a chance but don’t know how to go about it, you can enroll for the free 7-lesson mini-course.

It will teach you everything you need to know about transcription and help you decide if this is the right career path for you.

2) Freelance Proofreadingwhat is proofreading

Becoming a proofreader involves going through a written document and correcting grammatical errors or misspellings.

On average, new proofreaders earn $36,000 per year according to the Glassdoor report.

Whenever I think of proofreading jobs the one name that comes to mind is that of Caitlin Pyle. Caitlin is a successful freelance proofreader earning $50,000+ per year just by proofreading documents from home while enjoying fun vacations.

She created a FREE 45-minute freelance proofreading workshop that teaches beginners how to make money by proofreading documents from home.

Take my free proofreading practice test to see if you have the right skills to be a proofreader.

3) Freelance WritingFreelance Writing Jobs

Another great alternative to data entry jobs from home is freelance writing. If you have a knack for writing and are a fast learner, you can get clients from Fiverr.com, Upwork, or even use content mills.

I wrote this detailed post of freelance writing jobs for beginners. You can use that list to get more clients.

As for training, Holy Johnson is a successful six-figure freelance writer. She earns over $200K per year just by writing content for others.

She created her signature course: Earn More Writing and teaches her students all the winning writing strategies that helped her get the big bucks.

She also has a free freelance writing workshop that can help you build a six-figure freelance career. I encourage you to check that out if freelance writing is the career you want to take.
