Have you ever heard of website flipping?
You haven’t?
Well, I want to let you in on a secret!
Website flipping is where you buy or build your own website then sell it for profit.
This can be a great side hustle to bring in extra income working from home.
I just found out about this awesome side hustle through a lady I respect a lot. Her name is Jen Leach, creator of Website Flippers University.
Jen builds blogs and sells them for profit. It’s become such a lucrative part-time business for her, earning a full-time income.
She decided to create a course to show her students a behind the scenes experience of the flipping process.
Jen made over $30,000 working part-time flipping websites last year and we have an interview with her today.
Read on to find out how she did it!
1. What is Website Flipping?
Website flipping is the process of buying or building a website and flipping it (selling it) for a profit. It’s similar to other types of flipping: flea market flipping, house flipping, car flipping, etc.

[convertkit form=819017]2. How did you get started?
It all started for me when I sold my boutique business several years ago. After leaving eCommerce temporarily, I got into blogging. I was running a blog for nearly a year and decided I wanted to move in a new direction and start another blog in a different niche.
So, I sold that first blog and it fetched five figures with lots of awesome opportunities tied to the sale.
From there, I flipped 10+ more websites and it turned into a business.
I love building websites and it’s very rewarding to create something from nothing, make it valuable, then sell it for a nice profit. It makes a great small business idea for women.
3. What were you doing before starting the website flipping business?
Before flipping, I was working as owner/operator of my online boutique business. I started the boutique while I was working my corporate job and due to its success I was able to leave that job. Prior to the boutique, I worked in personal finance for about a decade.
4. How can someone start this website flipping business?
It’s a lot easier than you might think to get started. First, you build or buy a website; then, you make it valuable. This means adding content, growing an email list, making it profitable, etc. There are many things you can do to add value. Lastly, you sell it for a profit!
5. How much do you make from website flipping?
I have earned over six figures flipping websites. Each website sale is different and the price can vary a lot, depending on the age of the site, if it is income-producing or not, amount of traffic it receives, etc.
6. How do you find clients to sell these websites/blogs to?
Most often I sell on Flippa. Flippa is a marketplace where you can sell a website, domain, or app. I really like it because it’s user-friendly, the staff is very responsive and they offer lots of options for promoting the sale, type of listing, payment, etc. I think using Flippa is one of the easiest ways to sell websites.
7. How much does it cost to start and maintain a website flipping business?
You can start a website flipping business with under $100. The initial cost is the price of domain and hosting for your website. I usually pay under $25 when I start a new website.
Cost varies depending on the domain provider and host you select. You can invest in extras like outsourcing tasks, paid marketing, etc. but it’s not required and I typically manage the whole business myself, which keeps costs low.
8. How much should a beginner expect to earn?
Beginners can start earning up to four or five figures per month with website flipping. The process I teach in my course: Website Flipper’s University, allows you to rinse and repeat the process on multiple websites which can help increase monthly income even further.
9. You have a Website Flippers University Course. Please, tell us more about the course in detail
In the course Website Flippers University, you will learn how to build, grow, and flip a website for profit! I teach students my entire process. Some lessons covered include:
- How to start a website
- How to grow an email list
- Exact strategies for making the website profitable

- Traffic generation strategies
- How to craft winning content
- The listing process when it’s time to sell
- How to value the website

The course takes students through a 3-month process of building and growing the website. At the end of 3 months, following the course, the site will be ready to be sold! Selling at the end is optional. Students can continue to work on the site, keep it for themselves, or sell, their choice.
