GoTranscript is a transcription company known for hiring beginners to work from home with no prior transcription experience.
It is a worldwide online-only transcription opportunity with flexible working hours. You do not need to work at a certain time. You set your own hours and work whenever you want.
This is a big plus as most online workers love making money but also enjoy spending time with their loved ones.
I would say GoTranscript offers the best online transcription jobs for beginners.
Skills & Equipment Needed At Gotranscript
As I mentioned earlier, GoTranscript hires beginners and so they do not require any special skills or experience, but they specify on their site that you must have good English skills. These skills will come in handy when taking the Gotranscript test.
Also, they do not talk much about transcription equipment but as a professional transcriptionist, you need to have a computer that’s in a good working condition, a pair of headsets and a fast internet connection.
A foot pedal is not necessary since you will be using the GoTranscript transcription tool but you can buy one if you are working for other transcription companies. It surely will make your work easier. One thing I love about their tool is that it has shortcuts to make your transcribing experience a whole lot easier.

GoTranscript Application Process
For you to qualify as a transcriptionist, you must complete a 5-minute video test. With this test, they will be in a better position to know if you are qualified to be a part of their team or not.
Along with the video, they provide the GoTranscript guidelines or style guide that can be found in Google Docs here. This guide has information on formatting transcripts, identifying speakers, time stamping rules etc.
So, it is very important that you go through their style guide before taking the test. You will stand a better chance of getting accepted if you follow their instructions.
One thing to note is that their test file has a non-native speaker and the audio quality is a bit low. According to them, they chose this file so that they can know for sure who can work for them and who can’t because this is the type of work their clients send.
If you want to apply, go to the GoTranscript sign up page. Fill in your personal details, like your full names, email address and any other information required. You can also sign up with social media accounts like Facebook or Google.
I hope that you pass the test and I wish you all the best! But, if you fail, don’t worry. You can try again in a few days. When this happens, try to find out where you went wrong and improve on those areas.
If you passed the test, yay! Congratulations! You will need to sign up as a client using the same email you used in sending the test. After a little while, check email and follow the instructions they send you so that you can start working on available projects.
GoTranscript Work Completion Process
After getting accepted as a transcriber, you can go and log in. Every time a client uploads new files you get notified via email. Just go to the converter page, choose a file you want to work on and start working.
Here, you’ll get more information like the amount per file, turnaround time, text format whether clean or full verbatim and time stamping style to be used, if any.
In terms of deadlines, they give you enough time to complete your work. Usually, they allocate 6 hours for every 10 minutes of work assigned. In my opinion, this is a good deadline even the slowest typist can handle.
When you finish transcribing, you’ll submit your transcript. An editor will review your work before sending it to the customer. You will also get a chance to see the edited version so you can compare notes on what you might have missed. If your work is approved, earnings will be added to your account balance.
In addition, if you produce quality work that gets you a score of 4.5 out of 5 you stand a chance of getting accepted as an editor, and this means more work and more money in your pocket! How cool is that?

GoTranscript Work Schedule
One thing I love about this company is how flexible their working hours are. Their work schedule is similar to that of Rev.com. You can work at any time, even if it is at 2:00 AM in the morning. No restrictions. However, the more you work the more money you make.
Pay Rate & Payment Methods
One thing worth keeping in mind is that general transcription companies put a lot of emphasis on how much they are willing to pay (pay rate) per audio minute.
They look at audio quality, turnaround time, any special instructions from the client like timestamps etc. GoTranscript pay rate ranges from $0.30 to $0.60 per audio minute.
When you have enough amounts in your account balance, just request for payment to be made either via PayPal or Payoneer. These are widely known payment solutions that most freelancers and online merchants and business owners use.
- Sign Up here for a PayPal account if you don’t have one already.
- Sign up here for a Payoneer account if you don’t have one already.
