If you have a computer, a smartphone, an internet connetion and a few minutes to spare, you can test websites and get paid for it. This is a fun and easy way to work from home and earn some money. You get to work at your own pace and it only takes a few minutes (10 to 20 minutes max).
Website testing companies are coming out, in numbers, to hire people like you and me to complete simple tasks on their behalf. Site owners want to know what visitors think of their websites the first time they visit.
Bearing that in mind, I have put together a list of 13 companies that will pay you to test websites from home. Average pay is $8 to $10 per test.
What is Website Usability Testing?
This is where a tester goes to a website to perform certain tasks and ensure that it’s functioning properly. This allows site owners to offer the best experience to their customers. In addition, it enbles them to detect issues (if any) and to fix them in good time.
What are the Requirements?
Not all, but most companies expect you to have
- Fast internet connection (especially when your screen is being recorded)
- A microphone (you can get one from Amazon at a cheaper price)
- A desktop or laptop with Windows 7 or newer installed
- Webcam (most laptops have in-built)
- Recent version of Java
- Good command of the English language
- Have confidence and a great attitude (since you will be giving your thoughts out loud)
Are There Any Special Skills Required?
No. But, you have to complete a simple qualification test. They use this test to make sure your microphone is audible enough. Also, they want to see how well you can express your thoughts while giving feedback. So, confidence matters. That’s why I included confidence as part of the requirements.
The number of tests you get, per week or per month, will be dependant on how well you perform on this initial test. A good tester is someone who can provide useful information that is beneficial to both the site owner and the visitors.
How Much Do They Pay & How Will You Get Paid?
As I mentioned earlier, companies pay $8 to $10 per test on average. But, a company like Test.IO pays as high as $50 per test. Payment periods range from 3-5 days, 7 days and others going as far as 21 days after the test has been completed. Each company has their own durations when it comes to payments but they all pay via PayPal, with a few adding bank transfer, Skrill and Payoneer as modes of payment.
How Much Can You Earn Per Month As a Tester?
The amount of money you make will depend on your rating, interests and demographic. The higher the rating the more opportunities you will get. In terms of demographics, a person coming from the US will get more tests than a person coming from India or Middle East. But, on average you can make $500 a month if you do a good job.
Now that we know what website testing is all about and how much we can make, let’s look at the companies that will hire you to do these work from home jobs.
